Graham Parker and the Rumour – Newcastle City Hall, 5th March 1979

For the second time in 3 days I went to see a band that I had seen the previous year at Blackbushe supporting Bob Dylan – two days ago it was Joan Armatrading and tonight it was Graham Parker and the Rumour. I have a feeling that I went along on a spur of the moment decision buying a ticket on the door which is probably why I was up in the balcony – it was always a trade off between a rubbish seat in the stalls near the back or a seat in the balcony which often meant sitting side on to the stage – especially if you were going for the cheaper tickets!

I think I enjoyed seeing them at the City Hall more than I had done at Blackbushe because it was obviously a more intimate venue rather than seeing them on a distant (and I do mean distant) stage.  the only disappointment was that they didn’t play Hold Back the Night this time round but the encore of Hey Lord Don’t Ask Me Questions will remain with me forever!
